F.A.Q.s
How long is a tutoring session?
Most of our students prefer an hour long session, and this is the length we recommend starting with. If an hour is too short, our tutors are able to do 1.5 or 2 hour sessions. Anything longer than that is too long to be effective for students, and should be done on separate days. For example, if a student needs 3 hours it should be done in 1.5 sessions on Tuesdays and Thursdays.
How often should I meet my tutor?
Most of our students benefit greatly from a 1 hour session once a week. If a subject is particularly difficult or a student is focused on mastery, twice a week is recommended. A lot of our students choose more frequent or longer sessions for midterms and finals. Less than once a week, or only meeting just before a test is not an effective way to learn and retain class material.
Do tutors help with homework?
Yes, tutors help with homework. However, it is important to keep in mind that the tutor's goal is understanding and retention, not completing an entire homework assignment. In fact, students learn the material better if they complete part of the homework without a tutor's help.
Where do I meet my tutor?
Our tutors usually meet students in a mutually convenient library, in a study room if one is available. We can also meet students in coffee shops or cafés. Or, you can save the drive and meet online.
